"كانت ليلة جميلة ، جميلة جمالا لا نراه إلا حين نكون فى ريعان الشباب أيها القراء الأحبة! 

السماء تتلألأ فيها النجوم، و هى تبلغ من الصفاء ان المر يتساءل بالرغم منه حين ينظر إليها :

"هل يمكن تحت مثل هذه السماء أن يعيش أناس يملأ قلوبهم البغض و تعبث بنفوسهم النزوات؟".

"It was a wonderful night, such a night as is only possible when we are young, dear reader.

 The sky was so starry, so bright that, looking at it, one could not help asking oneself whether ill-humored and capricious people could live under such a sky."

"كيف عشت إذا لم يكن لك تاريخ ؟"

"But how could you live and have no story to tell?"

"Then how have you lived, if you have no history?"

 "أنا امرؤ حالم يبلغ حظى من الحياة الواقعية من القلة و الضاله

 اننى لابد لى أن اعيش مرة اخرى فى أحلامى اللحظات السعيدة التى تشبه هذه اللحظة."

"كان النهار حزينا ممطرا لا تتخلله فترات صحو ، كما ستكون شيخوختى."

"لشد ما يتفتح الانسان و يزدهر و يزداد جمالا حين يملأ الفرح قلبه و حين تفيض نفسه بالسعادة !

و كأن القلوب تريد أن ينتشر بعضها فى بعض ، فترغب أن ترى من حولها البهجة و الضحك ! و ما أشد سريان هذا الفرح بالعدوى !"

"But how fine joy and happiness makes any one! How brimming over with love the heart is! One seems longing to pour out one's whole heart; one wants everything to be gay, everything to be laughing. And how infectious that joy is!"

إن عاطفتنا تشتد عندئذ و تقوى .."

"هل تعلم أننى مستاءة قليلا من أنك لم تتوله بحبى. ما أصعب فهم الرجل !

و لكنك يا ايها السيد الصامد لا تستطيع إلا أن تحمد لى بساطتى.

فأنا أقول كل شئ، أية كانت السخافة التى تخطر ببالى."

"Do you know, I feel a little vexed that you are not in love with me?

 there's no understanding human nature!

but all the same, Mr. Unapproachable, you cannot blame me for being so simple;

 I tell you everything, everything, whatever foolish thought comes into my head."

 "انك طيب القلب نبيل النفس . أيكون قلبى من حجر فما أتأثر من ذلك؟

 هل تعلم فيم أفكر؟ لقد وازنت بينكما فى ذهنى .

لماذا ليس هو أنت ؟  لماذا لا يشبهك ؟ 

إنك خير منه ، رغم أننى أحبه أكثر مما أحبك."

"You are so kind that I should be a stone if I did not feel it. Do you know what has occurred to me now? I was comparing you two.

 Why isn't he you? Why isn't he like you?

He is not as good as you, though I love him more than you."

و يتخيلون إنهم يخفضون قيمة عاطفتهم إذا هم عبروا عنها بسرعة مسرفة."

و سيظل منقوشا فى ذاكرتى حلما من اجمل الاحلام ،
